DEDICATION Massive thanks to Sue and all the relatives and friends who have formed the fabric of my life. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Compiling this book took longer than I expected. It’s been quite an exercise in transferring memories, thoughts and opinions onto paper, disc and the cloud. Done primarily for my own benefit I do however hope that the outcome will be of interest to many of the people who have shared the adventure. I have appreciated the contributions made by all those who have filled gaps in my own memory, corrected hazy recollections or provided useful supporting documents. This includes a variety of authors and commentators whose books, articles, pictures and stories have helped influence some of my thinking and shaped my views on life and society.
